Silcotech and Dow Corning Introduce new silicone multi-shot processing system for medical devices
At NPE 2015, Silcotech, a liquid injection molding (LIM) technology supplier, partners with Dow Corning to present a new multi-shot processing system capable of simultaneously molding nine discrete substrates or shapes with different durometers, textures and colors.
Leveraging Dow Corning's QP1 silicone elastomer, Silcotech's multi-shot silicone system simultaneously molds nine discrete shapes. The costs are comparable to a single shot system, according to the company.
During the event, Silcotech demonstrated the production of multi durometer phone covers that integrate eight discrete QP1 Silicone Elastomer grades in one of nine different colors.
"Our customers can now cost-effectively produce finished, highly differentiated components in a single process that integrates materials with different durometers, chemical functional groups, surface textures, colors and other properties," said Michael Maloney, president of Silcotech. "The potential combinations for designers are virtually endless, and introduce a bold new chapter for competitive differentiation and success in today’s fast-growing global healthcare sector."
